Fellows are invited to submit research abstracts in the YIA competition to be held in conjunction with the 26th Annual Meeting of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, August 24-26, 2012 at Walt Disney World's Yacht Club in Orlando, FL. See eligibility requirements below and download the abstract form and submit by July 1, 2012. I look forward to reviewing submissions with the committee and including our next generation of cardiologist into our meeting.
R. David Anderson, MD, FACC, Chair, YIA
Timing and Abstract Submission
Abstracts may represent work in progress or may have been previously submitted for publication or presentation at a national meeting in 2012. Further, abstracts submitted in this competition are not precluded from submission for future publication or presentation. The YIA competition is part of a regional meeting and, clearly, will not preclude the fellow from submitting the abstract in a future endeavor.
Abstracts are to be submitted to the chapter office with the attached registration form before July 1, 2012. Abstracts must be submitted electronically to the e-mail address yia@accfl.org. Paper copies will not be accepted.

Eligible Competitors
All adult and pediatric cardiology fellows are eligible to enter the YIA competition who are enrolled in a training program in Florida.
Abstract Review, Selection and Notification
Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by a Chapter panel of cardiologists. Three finalists will be selected and they will be invited to the Chapter's annual meeting described above. In addition, selected abstracts will be chosen for poster presentation on August 25. The finalists and poster presenters will be notified by August 1, 2012.
Presentation: Date, Time and Location
The finalists will present their research on Saturday, August 25, during the FCACC Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL. Each Fellow will have 7 minutes in which to present followed by 3 minutes for questions. Poster presenters will present their research between 10:30 and 11:00 AM on August 25.
Prizes and Funding
The winner will receive $500 and the two other finalists will receive $250, in addition to plaques in recognition of their participation. The Chapter will reimburse each finalist for a maximum of two nights' room and taxes at Walt Disney World's Yacht Club in Orlando, FL for the nights of August 24 and 25. Each finalist is expected to attend the FCACC President's Dinner (cost for the dinner is underwritten by the FCACC). Travel will be reimbursed at the IRS standard rate per mile.
Registration
Fellows will register by completing a registration form for the meeting. In addition, the "Chief of Service or Laboratory Verification," "Abstract Reproduction" form, and "Author Confirmation" forms must be completed (see pages below). The three finalists are expected to attend the annual meeting and social events. Many meals are included in these activities and one guest/spouse and the children of the finalists are invited to attend the social events at no charge.
Additional Considerations
Fellows entering the YIA competition must have significantly participated in the research endeavor (to be confirmed by the fellowship program).
